A Man Known by Four Names
Morning Star, "Wohehiv"
Chief of the Northern Cheyenne
History books tell five different accounts of his death at five different times, referring to him as Dull Knife. Young fighting men often called him White Man’s Wife, his descendants refer to him as simply “the Old Man”, and his people knew him as Wohehiv, or Morning Star – a name that was not spoken for over 100 years from the time of his death.
MAGGIE DULL KNIFE ONE BEAR
The last surviving grandchild of Morning Star
"There has been talk of great leaders of other people– Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Our country has not been able to recognize an Indian leader. Maybe we are soon coming to a time when that can happen. I look around at our children and see that they have no such leader to follow. They need to know about my grandfather... We should come together and tell this story for the children."
